I’m writing this review on behalf of my father, Barry, who had some work done by Manny.
“I saw Manny’s truck in my area of Newton and decided to give him a call. I had been considering another company to reupholster 6 dining room chairs, but they were just too unreasonably expensive. Manny was very good with communication, returning my calls within hours, and he worked very quickly. His prices were fair, his work was good, and when he said the chairs would be done in 7 days, he meant 7 days. I got 6 years worth of damage in my dining room chairs fixed within a week. I get the feeling that Manny went out of his way to make me happy, and that he genuinely wanted me to be satisfied with the work. I can definitely recommend him to friends or family.”

I was impressed with the quality of the work that Manny did for me and his reasonable price. When the caning broke on the seat my chair, he offered me several options at different prices and explained the pros and cons of each choice. I am happy to recommend him.

I had two old chairs that I inherited from my mother that weren’t structurally sound. I had taken them out of my kitchen because I was afraid they would collapse if someone sat down too quickly!
So I took the chairs to Manny, who did an excellent job fixing them! The chairs look good as new, and I’m not afraid they will fall apart anymore. He even charged me less than we originally agreed on – and it was a very reasonable price. Manny was very pleasant to work with and I would definitely recommend him for any small or large woodworking jobs. He even sped up the work so it would be finished before he left town for a family emergency!

Manny reupholstered two mid-century lounge chairs, fixed an old dining room chair, and fixed the doors of an antique china cabinet for me. Everything is good as new, the work was done quickly, and he picked up and delivered too. Very pleased. Will use him again.

I called Manny on Monday evening, and he was able to schedule to come to my apartment on Wednesday morning to fix our vintage couch onsite (since we couldn’t get it down the stairs without taking it apart). We were worried that the couch was a gonner, and weren’t sure that anyone could fix it. The upholstery bands at the bottom of the couch that kept the springs in place were completely destroyed.
He was on time, and friendly. He explained every step he was taking to fix the couch, and what he thought about the value of the couch if it were completely refurbished. 2 hours later and minimal disruption, the couch was completely back in working order! His estimate for the work was within about $50 of what it wound up costing based on the pictures he had seen beforehand, because it was a bigger job than he thought it would be. Still completely reasonable and less than the thousands of dollars we were expecting to pay.
The best part of all: He said he would be happy to come back if anything went wrong with the repair. He actually guaranteed his work!

Manny was polite, knowledgable, and efficient. He’s a hardworking man offering a skilled craft and service for a fair price. My chair looks great. I think he could handle any furniture repair.

What a great guy and very help. I have an old beloved wooden Indonesian puppet someone brought to us from Bali many years ago that had broken numerous times. I was unable to glue it again and contacted fix-it-manny for help. He suggested I bring it in for him to look at and though he said he’d have to spend many hours on repairing and (which would be costly) he sent me off with material and instructions. I left with special tape, a board to repair it on, glue and specific instructions on how to do it. He wouldn’t take any money for time he spent with me or the material. It was very helpful.

I was so impressed with Manny and feel so lucky I found him. He is honest and efficient. He repaired a small chair’s leg and upholstered a footstool for me. His work is perfect. He also did it quickly….said it would be ready in a week and he called me that it was ready in a week. I couldn’t find his shop when I went to drop them off so he came to meet me about a half mile away. I highly recommend him.

I had Manny refinish and repair a badly water-damaged antique Chinese chest. Fabulous service. Great work. Reasonable price. When he realized I had a bad back he delivered it back to me, no charge. Wow!

I asked Manny to fix an old hutch that was once owned my husband’s grandmother. The hutch was hand painted by her over 50 years ago, but was very chipped, dented, and in poor condition. We loved the piece but it had gone from quaint to just plain shabby. Manny came to pick it up and described very clearly what he could and what he could not fix. He clearly communicated price and what I should expect (i.e. no miracles).
Today he arrived with a completely transformed hutch. It looks beautiful again, is structurally sound, and is usable once again. What’s more, Manny charged me LESS than the original quoted price because it didn’t take as long as expected. Who does that??? I will use Manny again and recommend him without reservation.

Manny did a nice job fixing our cherry bed leg after our little puppy had a good chomp. Didn’t over charge, actually gave us a cheaper quote once he saw the damage.

Manny just delivered my refinished dining room table, and it looks AMAZING!! The big black water marks I thought would never be gotten out are GONE and the finish is perfect, including the legs. And the price was right. Refinishing furniture is never cheap, but this was the best estimate I got. I really liked that fact that he was able to give me a rough estimate after looking at emailed pictures, and that he then immediately let me know the exact estimate after picking up the piece. Huge pluses are that he picks up and delivers, AND actually comes in the window he says he’ll be there. I thought the attention to detail in how he wrapped my piece for delivery was top notch. I liked his work so much that I engaged him to do some reupholstery for me on the spot!

Manny did an excellent job refinishing our built-in maple wood china cabinet, circa 1920. Most important, he cares about the work he does and seems to enjoy bringing back worn out pieces of furniture back to life.

We got 10 estimates. Manny was the most reasonable and detailed. Our dining set (4 pieces + 6 chairs) was around 90 years old and painted green in the 60’s. He stripped by hand, repaired, re-upholstered, and stained the entire set beautifully. We got to visit his workshop half way through to check out the progress and consult on stains. He took the time to show us different aspects of the pieces and provided a free insurance appraisal. He even found a 100 year old pair of gold chain glasses and returned them to us. They were my great great grandmothers! He lent us a table and chairs to use for 2 months while the work was being done. He wrapped and transported everything with painstaiking care and delicacy. He also showed us how to care for the newly refinished pieces properly. He even picked up our upholstery at the store without hassle. I would highly recommend him. A great guy, amazing talent for what he does, and we couldn’t be happier
